The Potomac Art Therapy Association's Nancy Schoebel Scholarship Award
Nancy Shoebel (1952-1990), a founding member of the Potomac Art Therapy Association, was a leader in promoting art therapy in the Washington, DC area. She served as PATA’s President and chaired the American Art Therapy Association’s Governmental Affairs committee from 1981 to 1985. Nancy even helped to found the National Coalition of Creative Arts Therapies Associations. Just 38 years old when she died, this award was created to honor her memory and inspire us all to recognize excellence in writing in the field of art therapy. Nominations and entries are sought annually. For 2015, the Board of the Potomac Art Therapy Association has funded The Nancy Schoebel Scholarship Award in the amount of $300.00.
Criteria for this award:
Nominees must be a graduate student, currently enrolled in an American Art Therapy Association approved art therapy master’s degree program and a student member of American Art Therapy Association and the Potomac Art Therapy Association. Students may join at time of submission.
Nominees must demonstrate excellence in writing on the topic of art therapy. Students may do so by submitting a completed writing sample, which can take the form of an essay, case study, or research paper. There is a 10 page limit, but these 10 pages may be excerpted from a longer work. The winner can have their paper published on the Potomac Art Therapy Association’s website and the award will be presented at the annual celebration to be held in October, 2017.
